Owl-Standing Behavior

Dear Families,

We have been talking a lot during these early weeks of school about our hopes and dreams for this school year.  The students and I have articulated many goals for ourselves.  Here’s a list of our most important ones:

-Keeping hands and feet to ourselves

-Walking in the classroom and hallways

-Listen/Talking one at a time

-Using kind words/being nice

To create a climate where all students can achieve their goals, we have created the following rules for our classroom:

Be Safe

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Be Kind

Have Fun!

When students display positive behavior in our classroom, such as following classroom rules, they are acknowledged and celebrated for their successes.  Students can even earn a prize after 5 positive behaviors.  These opportunities happen throughout the day and students can sometimes earn more than one prize a day.  In the beginning the prizes are more frequent, but as the school year progresses the prizes may seem less frequent.  This does not mean your child is not displaying positive behaviors, this is just the system’s way of weaning children off of the materialistic prizes and focusing on verbal-positive acknowledgements and/or celebrations. Sometimes I try to keep the “prizes” fresh and exciting so at some point the students might be working towards a whole class reward.

You can help us at home. Please keep these lists in a prominent place and review the rules often with your child.  We are all working together to create a safe and caring community of learners.  I appreciate your support.  Please feel free to call or email me if you have questions about these rules or our behavior system.
